Surely the timing is no mistake - the Tory vote in Scotland has been historically built on anti-Catholic/Irish feeling and it suits Cameron just fine and dandy to have this story appear on the day of a Scottish byelection in a seat where sectarian tensions are not far below the surface.

More generally I think there is quite a big downside for Cameron too. Should the Labour Party ever get its act together and learn how to hit becak they'll have lots of fun next time the UUP go courting with the loyalist fringe.

What goes around, comes around.
