Time for banks to step up

With the pound on the floor and the affordability gap for ordinary house hunters showing no sign of closing it is great to see government at home and in the UK taking proactive measures to try and get the market moving.

The Construction and Property Group has welcomed Margaret Ritchie’s pilot scheme which will introduce a form of shared equity here in Northern Ireland and I am sure there will be a broad welcome for the decision by the chancellor to increaee the threshold on stamp duty.

All this begs the question, what are the banks doing?

Brendan Cunnane, the Construction and Property Group Spokesperson has called for them to get involved in direct discussions with the industry about general roll out of today’sscheme. So far they have appeared unwilling to do so.

Only time will tell if they show a willingness to do so. ONe thing for sure.
