36 million reasons why America was right to say Yes We Can
Posted on November 8th, 2009 1 commentWashington (CNN) — The House of Representatives passed a sweeping health care bill Saturday night with a tight vote of 220-215, making it the biggest expansion of health care coverage since Medicare was created more than 40 years ago.
The Affordable Health Care for America Act, or H.R. 3962, restricts insurance companies from denying coverage to anyone with a pre-existing condition or charging higher premiums based on gender or medical history. It also provides federal subsidies to those who cannot afford it and guarantees coverage for 96 percent of Americans, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
Obama had a lot riding on this. See video below;

As you can probably imagine, I think this is crazy. The poor already have access to coverage. The 36m statistic you cite (the Democrats often refer to 48m depending on the day of the week) is a phony number, mainly because the vast majority of uninsured are the wealthy who choose to pay for treatment rather than insurance, the young (or so-called indestructibles), and people who are eligible for an existing program but don’t know it.
People who actually like their insurance programs will see their premiums increase and may well see their work cut medical benefits because they know that government now will pick up the tab. Where was TORT reform in the bill, eh? If the Democratic Party enjoy sitting on their high horse why don’t they pass legislation on ambulance chasers like John Edwards?
