The North Rocks

Northern Ireland has just been crowned the geological capital of the world for 2008.

The Tellus project has won the prestigious Mining Journal Outstanding Achievement Award for its contribution to global geology.

Tonight in every possible sense of the word, the North rocks.

Geology awards

I’m in London for meetings and a big awards night. It’s the geology Oscars tonight and Northern Ireland is shortlisted for a major award. All off the back of the ground breaking, if you pardon the pun, work by the Geological Survey of NI through its Tellus project which we were the communications advisers on.

Meantime I have been thinking to myself this morning that the Advertising Standards Authority got it just about right in condemning the free p homophobic ad. Whilst I will defend to the end a person’s right to express an opinion there is a line between that and using bought advertising in a way which could be deeply offensive to any group. The old line – my rights start where your’s end – sums it up for me.
