Palintology VIII – The Queen of Dirty Energy
Posted on July 15th, 2009 No comments
Sarah Palin has proclaimed herself Queen of Dirty Energy.Writing in Today’s Washington Post, the doyenne of the American right has vowed to oppose President Obama’s Clean Energy Bill which seeks to reduce the United State’s carbon emissions over coming decades.
Liberal’s are fuming. Sarah Galland from MoveOn.org has just sent an email the million or so who are members of the grass roots advocacy group condemning Ms Palin’s article.
Her op-ed is a marvel of misinformation and outright lies. Just like conservatives in Congress, Palin is trotting out the “energy taxes” scare tactic, and arguing instead for more drilling and more dirty coal. This bill already has too many giveaways to Big Coal and Big Oil, but it’s still not enough for Palin.
This is the same Sarah Palin who doesn’t believe climate change is caused by humans.3 The same Sarah Palin who is obsessed with drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. And the same Sarah Palin who’s looking for controversial issues to launch a 2012 presidential bid.
Now she’s positioning herself as the face of the conservative attack against clean energy, against the Clean Air Act—even against the creation of millions of new jobs in solar and wind.
But wind and solar create more than twice as many jobs as coal and oil. Clean energy is the only way to make America’s economy competitive in the 21st century.
The truth is we need a stronger energy bill in the Senate to combat our economic and climate crisis, but Sarah Palin’s lies could sink our hopes for a clean energy economy. Can you chip in $35 to fight back against Palin’s false claims?
Ouch!

The GILF is gone and the comedian cometh
Posted on July 4th, 2009 No commentsSarah Palin is resigning as Governor of Alaska and queen GILF on July 26th. Some commentators are suggesting an article in the most recent edition Vanity Fair may have been the straw which broke this particular glamour camel’s back.
Writing on MSNBC this morning Howard Fineman tries to make some sense of the announcement.
Why now? Why this minute? Well, perhaps there is scandal lurking in the Great North that we in the Lower 48 don’t know about. Maybe there is video of the Palin family setting a polar bear adrift on ice floes. But there is no reason to suspect so and, in the meantime, it’s worth noting that both the timing and the manner of Palin’s announcement were pretty shrewd.
She picked a long holiday weekend at the onset of summer (when, by the way, “Meet the Press” is pre-empted by Wimbledon tennis) to issue her stunner. She took no questions after her announcement and then disappeared into her house. As a result, she controlled the message, which was:
I’m the scrappy “point guard” (her basketball position on a state-champion team long ago) and I’m gonna take it to the hoop of freedom for ya!
Now she will be free to travel the country, rake in a lot of dough as a speaker, work the GOP and conservative dinner circuit, hawk her book once it comes out — and see how the game develops.
Elsewhere one of the US’s favourite comedians, Al Franklin, has been elected the second Senator for Minnesota nearly seven months after election day and by just 312 votes. A big day no doubt for the Franklins but an even bigger boost for President wh can now count of the support of 60 Senators and the ability to manage legislation through Congress. -
