What Is Citric Acid Powder?

However, in the late 1700s, the organic acid was crystallized for the first time, from lemon juice by Carl Wilhelm Scheele, a Swedish scientist. Between the late 1800s and early to mid-1900s, scientists discovered that certain bacterial strains can produce citric acid as a by-product of their metabolic processes.

It was from these two methods, the isolation of the fruit and the harvest of the bacterial colonies, that acid is being produced. In our bodies, it is the product of the citric acid cycle, in which our bodies take up glucose that we have been ingested or received from the breakdown of glycogen in the liver, and turn it into citric acid to provide energy for our cells.

This process occurs in the mitochondria of our cells and is involved in many metabolic pathways such as glucagon and insulin signaling, ATP production and synthesis of fatty acids.
